Brief descriptions and reviews of new files added to the system during
January, 1987:
01-31-87]
ICONSRC1.ARC 302820 01-31-87 ICON v6 Complete C source code
ICONSRC2.ARC 179944 01-31-87 ICON v6 Compile doc, tools, test prgms
U/L by Winston Llamas. These two archives contain the complete source and
related doc, compilation tools and test programs for version 6 of Ralph
Griswold's ICON programming language. For more information about ICON, see
the description of the archives containing the executables below
(01-29-87). Note: The source archives contained newer copies of
OVERVIEW.DOC and VERSION6.DOC so the ICONDOC.ARC file has been updated.
Many thanks to Winston for sending along this very impressive (and large!)
collection.
AUDIT.ARC 3361 01-31-87 Searches disk for hid/sys/r/o files/dirs
U/L by Brian Miller. A collection of programs to search through your disk
for "unusual" files, e.g. hidden, system or read/only files.
PCBFIL27.ARC 74953 01-31-87 PCBoard Dir Maintenance/ PCB 10&11 / v2.7
U/L and written by John Wulff. This program remains the indispensable tool
for maintaining this system, particularly its cross-reference and master
file list functions. v2.7 represents a major update, with the following
changes:
--- Compatibility with multi-node operation. Files are opened in
SHAREd mode as necessary.
--- Increased performance.
--- Updating of either DATE or SIZE fields in DIRxx.
--- ALL modes are now executable from EVENT.SYS.
There's actually more that's new in this release. If you run a PCBoard
system (either version 10 or 11) and haven't taken a look at this program
yet, you should.

Brief descriptions and reviews of new files added to the system during
January, 1987:
COMHELP.ARC 79778 01-31-87 Comm port diagnostics/learning tool v1.5
This one is described in the doc as an alternative to the DOS MODE command
for setting communications port parameters. Well, it can, but it's
ridiculous to have a more than 100K program to do that! But, wait, this
one turns out to be a winner after all. It's an excellent tutorial on the
mysteries of UARTs and modem registers and all that techie stuff, and also
does a very capable job of comm port diagnostics. v1.5, 10/13/86 and worth
a look if you want to learn more about the COM ports on your PC.
TIMKEEP3.ARC 91759 01-31-87 Computer time logging/billing v3.0
An update to a program that has been here since 3/85, TIMEKEEP is a
non-resident program that will log your time on a computer (not
automatically -- you have to keep turning it on and off) and allow you to
bill clients for that time. v3.0 1/12/87, has the following new features:
You can find records by any word in the job description; you can correct
previously entered records; you can find out how many jobs are listed in
the LOGFILE, and what the inclusive dates are; and you can add records
from within TIMEKEEP to the LOGFILE. The new version also features an
interface to a commercial SAVVY-PC based program, OMNIFILE. Operation of
the various functions has also been speeded up.
The program is capable enough and may meet your needs. It's strength is
that the files it creates are comma-delimited ascii so you can supplement
its rather weak reporting capabilities with a report generator of your own.
Still, loading and unloading this 91K EXE file (written in QuickBasic from
the looks of it) to turn the log on and off is grim, and the input fields
it allows are very constricting.
RLA10.ARC 11365 01-31-87 'Appointment by Alarm' 1.0/Mem-res reminder
TSR reminder of appointments (or other "to do's") you have scheduled during
the day. This version can not read appointments in from a file so they
must be entered each day, and you must reboot the system each day to clear
out the previous day's entries. Alarms must also be scheduled on the hour
or half hour. Looking forward to version 2.0. This one has promise, but
not yet. Uses about 31K of RAM.
SRCH70.ARC 31017 01-31-87 Search text files for multiple phrases
U/L by Craig Hulvey. "Fast text search and/or replacement program. Search
for up to 5 variables at once. This version adds non-printing ASCII
capability on the command line." A bit clumsy to use, but has capabilities
not found in other programs.

Brief descriptions and reviews of new files added to the system during
January, 1987:
FFL.ARC 13760 01-31-87 Fast File Lister displays/prints text files
U/L by Craig Hulvey. O.K. You all know how biased I am in favor of Vern
Buerg's LIST program, but compare the capabilities of this 14K COM file to
what Vern packs into LIST's 7K and maybe you'll see why this one won't be
on the system long.
PULLDOWN.ARC 10797 01-31-87 Pulldown TPascal menus w/ windows (1/87)
U/L by Craig Hulvey. "Includes PULLDOWN.INC and WINDOW31.INC. You also
need QWIK21.INC to run this [on this system in QWIK21.ARC]. ...Program is
very fast pulldown menus (such as Framework)."
DBA0287.ARC 20498 01-31-87 Data Based Advisor source code 02/87
U/L by Craig Hulvey. Check out the README file via the archive DOOR to see
what's in this latest sampler.
HELP.ARC 10696 01-31-87 Create, manage F1 help screens, dB3+ v1.0
U/L by Craig Hulvey. Popping help screens in dB3+. PRG and text.
VAINCTAX.ARC 9438 01-31-87 Lotus WK1 worksheet for Virginia income tax
U/L by Craig Hulvey.

U/L by Michael Pechnyo.
C_FLD.ARC 11896 01-31-87 Field input for DeSmet C, w/assembler source
U/L by Michael Pechnyo.
DOORS2.ARC 10376 01-31-87 Switch monitors/ASM/Mod to copy not switch
U/L by Michael Pechnyo. Based on the PC Mag program for switching between a
mono and a color monitor, this mod by Michael will copy the text from one
screen to the other but leave the current monitor active. ASM source of
the original and the modified version included.
ENNS.ARC 8861 01-31-87 Free-Form curves source, BYTE 12-86 BAS

Brief descriptions and reviews of new files added to the system during
January, 1987:
MAKEDBF3.ARC 12359 01-30-87 Schulman's import data to autocreated DBF v3
As I often do, I'm going to steal Pete Olympia's review of this one:
"Andrew's revised pgm to import data into your application via a DBF file
it creates. Does for DBF what MAKEMEM does for MEM. This new version has
the -E option to create an empty DBF, and the -S option to prevent DBF
damage even if power is turned off. Truly superb. You should send in your
$15, if only to see the C source. Andrew has published nothing but gems
and he's trying to raise money for their first baby. Go ahead, make his
day."
GIVEBACK.ARC 2829 01-30-87 RBBS merge to give back DDOS CPU time w/ASM
U/L by Jim Weddle.
JAPAN.ARC 121130 01-30-87 Tutorial on Japanese vocab,grammar,culture 1.0
U/L by Jim Weddle. A computerized tutorial on Japanese vocabulary, grammar
and culture, entitled "Japanese for Business and Travel." The documentation
says: "It has been written that Japanese is one of the ten most difficult
languages on earth to learn. ....When you finish the tutorial, I'm sure
that you'll disagree." The author also wishes you "good ruck." Hmmm ...
PIBCAT11.ARC 63009 01-30-87 Disk cataloguer in Turbo Pascal/Expands
ARCs & LBR's/ Complete source/Phil Burns/1.1
U/L and written by Philip Burns. Every once in a while -- not often
enough, alas -- the BBS system of software distribution really works.
Here's an example. Two callers to this system, David Seidman and Stephen
Falatko, offerred code suggestions to Phil Burns and they are incorporated,
with further mods, in this revision, plus a new feature added by Phil. The
changes are:
--- Alternate routines for handling some DOS 2.x volume labels to
deal with a bug in those DOS versions;
--- ARC/LBR members will be listed immediately after the file name,
rather than at the end of the dir, unless you choose otherwise via a
command line switch;
--- A new option has been added to allow searching for an entry
inside an ARC or LBR file.
[01-29-87]
READLVL.ARC 17920 01-29-87 Determine ease of reading/wordcount/C source
U/L and written by Steve Pribut. Uses the famous (infamous?) Flesch test
to measure the readability of a document.

BLED15.ARC 89569 01-29-87 Source code util-mrg,compare-QBASIC more 1.5
U/L and written by Ken Goosens. Some significant changes and bug fixes to
an excellent program that will be especially useful to those of you working
with QuickBASIC. BLED allows you to compare and merge text files,
including unnumbered code. Particularly helpful where multiple authors are
working together on a program (e.g. RBBS, where Ken works with other
authors). Complete QB source for the BLED program itself is included.
v1.5, 1/25/87.

ICONLMM.ARC 186922 01-29-87 ICON v6 executables large mem model
ICONSMM.ARC 139975 01-29-87 ICON v6 executables small memory model
U/L by Winston Llamas.
"Icon is a high-level programming language with extensive
facilities for processing strings and lists. Icon has several
novel features, including expressions that may produce sequences
of results, goal-directed evaluation that automatically searches
for a successful result, and string scanning that allows opera-
tions on strings to be formulated at a high conceptual level."
Written by Ralph Griswold, of SNOBOL fame, this is release 6 of ICON. The
language has been entirely re-written in C (source not included in these
arcs), and the major changes are summarized as follows:
"Version 6.0 extensions consist of a declaration to facilitate
the use of Icon procedure libraries, a new set data type, new
options for sorting tables, new syntax to support the use of co-
expressions in programmer-defined control operations, the invoca-
tion of functions and operators by their string names, and a few
new functions."
More information is contained in the ICONDOC.ARC, which I strongly
recommend you download and review before deciding whether to come back for
the rest of the collection or parts of it.
NOTE: I have substantially re-organized these archives from the way they
have been circulating on other boards and from the way they are described
in the READ.ME files. Files were duplicated across the various arcs, and a
much less efficient arc utility had been used. However, the archives,
while smaller (not small!) are complete.

HELP!.ARC 66397 01-29-87 HD file mngr v2.01, 12/06/86, Bruce A. Taylor
U/L by Bob Weinstein. Another very good DOS shell/sweep-type utility.
Features include:
o Copy, Compare, Move or Erase One or More Files
o Save the File Names used for the above commands for later recall
o Make or Erase Sub-Directories
o Locate a File(s) presence on the Hard Disk in ANY Directory
o Change File Attributes
o Make Hidden Directories
o Print to Screen / File / Printer either Formatted or Unformatted
o Print Directories
o Hex-Dump Files
o Visual Directory Tree for Rapid Access to Buried Sub-Directories
o Add / Change Volume Labels
o Run Programs by Pointing at a File Type
o Context Sensitive Help
o Two Different File Windows
o Sort Files by Name, Extension, Size, Time or Date
o Change Screen Attributes to Your Preference
It's very pretty and quite powerful. Neither the on-line help nor the
documentation amount to much, but the program is quite easy to learn and to
use.
RMCTRL-H.ARC 13412 01-29-87 Filter backspace chars in files w/C source
U/L by Jeffrey Heynen. There are other programs that do the same
(interpret and remove control-H -- backspace -- characters from a file) but
this one works well and comes with the C source.
[01-28-87]
XDIR102.ARC 30563 01-28-87 Include comments in directory display & more
U/L and written by Iram Weinstein. A command-line driven program (either a
plus or a minus depending on your personal religion with respect to these
matters) to allow you to create short comments describing each file in a
directory. Also allows you to copy and move files. Well executed and
straight-forward, and useful for those of you who need more that DOS' 11
characters to remember what the heck your files are. See also XPNDIR.ARC
and it's associated utility EXPCOPY.ARC for a somewhat more involved
approach.

January, 1987:
DD15.ARC 13721 01-28-87 DoubleDir v1.5, Shows 2 dirs at once/E.Grunin
U/L by Bob Weinstein. I think the new features are support for 43-line
mode on EGA and a DOS shell command, but what's new isn't clearly indicated
in the doc. For other comments, see review of DD14.ARC on 1/13/87 (below).
NO_ANSI.ARC 5965 01-28-87 Strip incoming ANSI seqs/TSR/ASM/D.Nowell
U/L by Bill Cummings. A mem-res program to strip out ANSI escape sequences
(the kind this BBS sends when you turn graphics on, for example) before
they are written to your screen. I suspect the source code will turn out
more useful than the program. v1.0, 1/25/87.
W4-11.ARC 46944 01-28-87 W-4 worksheet helper R.Stanley EXE only
U/L by Bill Cummings. 1/19/87 release of this W-4 calc program, this time
as an executable, rather than in basic source, and without any doc. I
think I liked it better the old way, and have kept that one on the system
as well for now (though both won't last here long --- none of the W-4
programs I've seen, including this one, strike me as being terribly
useful).
LJ2UP.ARC 10383 01-28-87 HP LaserJet util/2 pages per sheet
U/L by Mike Focke. "A utility that prints ASCII text files in "2-up" (two
pages on each piece of paper) format on a Hewlett-Packard LaserJet (or
LaserJet+) printer. To run this program, you need a font cartridge with
the Line Printer font in landscape form. Many cartridges contain this
font, such as the HP 92286A font cartridge."

COLORAM.ARC 33339 01-27-87 Test full 16K of RAM on CGA card
U/L by Bill Wood. Untested as the only CGA I have here is non-standard and
I'd rather not dink with it.
DBU12.ARC 67691 01-27-87 DB3UTIL v1.2-dBASE and Quicksilver utility
U/L and written by Cal Thames. A multi-purpose dBase utility, especially
designed for those using Wordtech's Quicksilver compiler. v1.2, 1/27/86.

ARCV117.ARC 12253 01-27-87 ARChive Verbose Lister v1.17 01/27 Buerg ASM
01-27-87 Recognizes "Squash"/even smaller/SHARE compat
Two changes to this latest version of Vern Buerg's fast utility that gives
you a verbose listing of an archive: (1) Vern managed to shrink the .COM
file about 30 bytes, bringing it just below 2K, instead of just over.
Result: On DOS 3.x >20 meg hard disks, you just saved 2K of space; (2) The
program now supports DOS 3.x file sharing, opening the files for reading
only in "deny nothing" mode (i.e. other processes may concurrently read or
write to the file without producing SHARE violations). A joy for PCBoard
sysops running multi-node systems (like me!) and for anyone using this
program in a file sharing environment. The ASM source for the program is
included, which will undoubtedly be of aid to others trying to figure out
the mysteries of both archives and SHAREd files.
RPT2DLM.ARC 26624 01-27-87 Convert fixed text to comma delimited format
"This is a very preliminary version of a program called Report-2-Delim.
The purpose of this program is to take multi-line fixed-field report text
files translate them to delimited data files. Programs such as Lotus and
Paradox can then convert these files to their own table formats." U/L by
Larry Lynn.
WSSTRIP.ARC 17340 01-27-87 WS to ASCII cnvrt, wrd count, DLC 2.12
U/L and written by Tadas Osmolskis. "This is a program which strips the
high bits from Wordstar files, removes print/format characters, deletes
lines which start with periods ("Dot commands"), and provides some
simple-minded summary statistics about the file procesed." Full,
well-commented source in DataLite C (v2.12) is included.
ANSI-AID.ARC 13193 01-27-87 Create ansi graphics with text editor
A "how to" on creating ansi (color) screens with a normal text editor.
Explains the escape sequences, etc. Sample screens included. U/L by Jim
Davis.

LIST61A.ARC 21854 01-26-87 Buerg's excellent! file LISTer v6.1A 01/23/87
01-26-87 Full-screen ascii or binary file viewer
01-26-87 Now shell to DOS, backspaces handled, SHARE
U/L and written by Vern Buerg (with a little assist on the upload from
Brian Larson).
Those of you who have been with this bulletin for a while know that I am an
unabashed fan of Vern Buerg's LIST program. It is one of a handful of
programs that I just wouldn't want to be without. I don't want to TYPE a
file; I want to LIST it so I can have the amazing number of capabilities
Vern has packed into this less than 7K .COM file. If you have not yet
tried LIST, you are making a big mistake. Hopefully, you'll also consider
supporting this program if you decide to use it regularly.
With that said, and knowing that most of you have tried LIST (it is far and
away the most popular file on this system), here are the major new
features in version 6.1A:
-- Additional support for the EGA;
-- A new ALT-G command that allows you to shell to DOS from the
LIST program. The result is a 64K DOS work area where you can do a little
housekeeping, whatever, and then EXIT right back to LIST;
-- The Alt-J (junk) toggle has been enhanced so that it not only
handles lines that end with a linefeed instead of a CR/LF combination, but
also properly interprets backspace characters. Readers of the
Fansi-Console doc files are in business -- you can now LIST them. Would
you believe even Chuck Forsberg's wacky docs (e.g. the ZMODEM and YMODEM
protocol doc files and the ZCOMM documentation) will now LIST properly?
-- DOS 3.x file sharing has been implemented. Callers to this
board should be especially thankful. I'm much less likely to thunk you by
accident because I go to read a file that PCBoard has open in SHARE mode.
More seriously, the addition of full support for file sharing makes LIST
even more valuable to those using this program under networks or
multi-tasking systems that follow NETBIOS or SHARE rules.
There's more. This is a significant update to Vern's already excellent
program and well worth the download time. If you haven't done so in a
while, read Vern's doc file. LIST can be easily customized to suit your
own needs and you'll get the most benefit from this program if you take a
few moments to follow the instructions. You'll also find capabilities you
probably didn't realize were there.

LIST61A.ARC (Continued)
Conflict of interest disclosure: Vern was kind enough to share (whoops, no
pun intended) pre-release versions of this program with me, and others, for
testing.
INDEXING.ARC 69028 01-26-87 QuickBASIC Binary Tree Indexing Routines
U/L and written by Roy Barrow. A good doc file and a sample program
demonstrating B-TREE indexing in QB. Not all of the routines called by the
sample program are included, but are sent to contributors.

FCON200G.PCH 11233 01-26-87 Upgrade any FCON 2.00 DEV to G version
U/L by Dave Klein. Some bug fixes. If you have a 2.00 device driver, just
take the patch file and apply it with debug (it's a cinch: DEBUG
FCONSOLE.DEV < FCON200G.PCH).
LASJT44.ARC 49635 01-26-87 LaserJet setup utility v4.4 - Guy Gallo
This is Guy Gallo's latest version of his excellent HP LaserJet set up
utility (that also includes a notepad). The new feature in this version is
the ability to edit a custom (one not already supported by this
program) printer code to send to the LJ and then save that code as part of
the program for future use.
COHORT20.ARC 46792 01-26-87 Gallo's Printer/Directory/Notepad util v2.0
This program combines a generic printer setup utility (get out your manual
-- you'll need to enter the codes yourself) with some DOS commands and a
very good notepad. Version 2.0 holds the contents of the notepad in memory
even if you exit the pad to the main menu.
CRC.ARC 13408 01-26-87 Forsberg's calc 32-bit CRC of file/EXE/C/DOC
The 'C' code will probably be of the most interest as it shows how to
calculate a 32-bit CRC value. However, the program can also be used to
verify that a file has been accurately transferred via modem by simply
comparing the CRC value calculated on both ends.
DSZ0119.ARC 37584 01-26-87 Z/Ymodem module/run frm other comm prgs 011987
Who knows what Chuck has changed this time? There are never update notes.
But, here's the latest of his excellent DSZ module that you can run from
other comm programs to add Ymodem (single file and batch) and Zmodem
capabilities. Still running Crosstalk XVI and unwilling to give it up, but
want the extra speed of Ymodem? Here's your answer.

GUDLUK31.ARC 68945 01-25-87 GoodLook 3.1 - Side by Side File Compare
U/L and written by John Dove. There are just too many new features for me
to list them all in this bulletin. This is a powerful, 2 files at a time
viewer, that makes it easy to compare files for differences. Major
enhancements are support for WS files, improvements to the search
capabilities, and expecially the new Zoom mode that allows you to choose
either of your 2 files for full-screen display at any time.

MAKEDBF2.ARC 8507 01-25-87 A. Schulman import text to auto created dbf
U/L by Bob Hicks. Good program to import data into your application via a
DBF file it creates. In Pete Olympia's words: "Does for DBF what MAKEMEM
does for MEM."
ZOO140.ARC 33792 01-25-87 Zoo archiver 1.40 (nonARC) w/new features
U/L and written by Rahul Dhesi. Some very impressive new features in this
not-compatible-with-SEA's ARC archive utility. For those of you looking
for an archive utility for your own private storage tasks, this one is
worth a look, particularly if the availability of a Unix/Xenix etc.
version of the program has significance for you (Rahul promised the updated
code for that in a week or so).
CUT.ARC 9611 01-25-87 Unix-like 'cut' with output formatting/EXE/DOC
U/L by Dave Johnson. A DOS implementation of the Unix 'cut' command that

Your C-Itoh got ya upside down? Maybe this will help. By Dana Nowell,
includes complete ASM source. U/L by Bill Cummings.
VACUUM.ARC 5320 01-24-87 Recover data from bad floppy disks/ASM
As David Seidman who wrote and U/L this file points out, here's one you
hope you'll never need. But, if a floppy with critical data on it has gone
bad on you, this may help you recover at least some of the information.
1/24/87, includes good doc, executable and complete ASM source.
PCW271A.ARC 267786 01-24-87 QuickSoft's PC-Write v2.71 Main Disk
This archive contains the files from the December '86, v2.71 "Program"
disk. See Bulletin 3 for more information. There undoubtedly is also a
new 2.71 utilities disk, but I do not have that one yet (hint, hint), so
the 2.7 utilities disk archive is still on the system.

ARCE211.ARC 9839 01-24-87 Extract ARC files/V.Buerg,W.Chin/v2.11 012487
U/L and writen by Vern Buerg. This is an official release of ARCE (2.08 et
seq. were not). The major change from v2.06 is the addition of the
/Piping command which allows you to redirect output. Typically,
redirection would be to the console so you can read a file without
extracting it from the arc. You can also pipe to LIST, Vern's wonderful
file lister, with a command like the following:
ARCE EXAMPLE READ.ME /P | LIST /S
More info is contained in Vern's excellent documentation. Note: Squashed
files, as produced by Phil Katz's PKARC 2.0, are not supported by ARCE --
they will simply be skipped and the program will go on to the next
not-squashed file. If you wish to use PKARC 2.0, I continue to recommend
that you apply the DISSQASH.PAT file to it so it will not use the
non-standard squash algorithm by default. Conflict of interest disclosure:
Vern shared a pre-release of this program with me, and others, for testing.
TOLIST.ARC 2818 01-24-87 Pipe program output to Vern Buerg's LIST
U/L and written by Lewis Paper. Speaking of piping to LIST, here's a handy
batch file and a PCED synonym to reduce the number of keystrokes.
Excellent doc included.
PATHA.ARC 49005 01-24-87 PATHALIAS for Unix/ source & (skimpy) doc
U/L by Ed Clarke. Uh, uh, no way I'm going to try and summarize the
purpose of this program. Hopefully, those of you who are interested in the
intricacies of path aliases in Unix will already know what's here.
T1KFIX.ARC 51 01-24-87 Overcomes "Cannot exec as child of Basic"
U/L by Vern Buerg. COM file only.
APNDIR.ARC 2522 01-24-87 APPEND Directories/DOS thinks they're one
U/L by Philip Stults. This is described in the doc as handling situations,
as with WordStar, where the program can't find its overlays. I don't see
why this approach has any advantages over SUBST, if you have DOS 3.1+, or a
path enhancer like DPATH30 if you don't. Untested.
HOTKEY.ARC 1320 01-24-87 Another typematic speedup for PC/XT keybd 1.05

QF23D.ARC 72459 01-23-87 Qfiler 2.3d: Print Dirs/Use Exts w/ Subdirs
U/L by Chuck Cooper. Here are Kenn's latest update notes for the interim
revisions to Qfiler (those updates not including a number change but adding
a letter to the version):
QF23A and QF23B both resolve some problems with DOS2.x, particularly in
using the ARC utilities (CTRL-A).
QF23C adds the ability to print a hardcopy of the sorted directory (as
displayed in the current window) by pressing CTRL-P (printer utilities),
then "D".
QF23D adds the ability to create, remove, and change to subdirectories with
extensions -- not common, but allowed by DOS. What DOS allows, QFILER
should support.
PCPZCOMM.ARC 5133 01-23-87 Sample Zcomm script w/Pursuit,CIS,Genie,etc.

WIND30.ARC 14064 01-23-87 Multi-level windows v3.0, w/TP source, 010187
U/L by Bob Weinstein. "This utility creates incredibly quick multi-level
windows as include files in Turbo Pascal programs for IBM PC/XT/AT compati-
bles. They work on MDA, CGA, and EGA adapters in any column mode
(40/80/etc.). This utility uses the quick screen writing utilities of
QWIK21.INC."
XD100.ARC 7041 01-23-87 eXtended/eXchange Directory v1.00, 01/02/87
U/L by Bob Weinstein. This is an excellent program. It combines the
capabilities normally found in pushdir/popdir type programs with some other
very useful functions, including the ability to change both drives and
subdirs with one command. Its memory usage is very efficient -- roughly
192 bytes (and if need be, you can MARK/RELEASE that segment). All in all,
a joy, and well worth a look.

SORTS15.ARC 9387 01-22-87 Multi-key record sorter, v1.5, 01/13/87/Parke
U/L by Tony Rood. An excellent, fast, SORT program (light years better
than that which comes with DOS), Bill Parke's utility also has the powerful
capability to perform multiple field sorting based on a selection of
columns making up a sorting key. Alas, no update notes for this latest
version. Would someone who is in contact with Bill (as I know some of you
are; he's one of our own here in D.C.), please pass along my respects for
his excellent programs and a plea that he start including update notes?
Thanks.
BKILL21.ARC 17762 01-22-87 Delete trailing blanks ASCII files 2.1 11/86
U/L by Tony Rood. Wonderful. In any number of ways, such as with some
screen dump-to-disk programs, you end up with a file that pads each line
out to 80 columns with spaces, and that's not what you want. This little
util gets rid of them.

This uncrippled, excellent shareware package has been on BBS systems for 3

U/L by Dean Wood. With the change of policy by PC Mag re: posting their
programs on "noncommercial" BBS systems, here are 4 from recent issues.
Frankly, none are great programs, but all of the arcs contain complete ASM
source, and the code is well-commented and useful. A few notes: PC Mag
recently fixed a bug in DIREX based on a reader's submission and the copy
in the arc contains that fix. Also, the SUGGEST program is absolutely
dismal (Dean Wood quite properly put an UGH! after it when he uploaded
it). I've deleted the COM file from that ARC, as only the code could
conceivably be of any value.
POLYMATH.ARC 158685 01-21-87 Interesting Forth-like language - mathish too

processing. Much like Forth, Polymath is highly modulated and based upon
function words. Most words are defined with very simple tasks. These
simple words are then used and integrated with other words to build more
powerful words functions. An entire programming dictionary of function
words can then be developed which is actually custom created by the
author."

AMAXX234.ARC 77918 01-21-87 AUTOMAXX Menu System/PC Manager v2.34 122386
U/L by Bill Walsh. Recent update notes for this excellent menu program and
DOS shell:
Version 2.34 --
AUTOMAXX now supports the ARC program of The System Enhancement
Associates by calling it to arc the files are tagged. All command
line parameters of the ARC.EXE are supported. You must have declared
a path to ARC.EXE to use the archive feature of AUTOMAXX.
Command line parameters are now supported by the execute
feature.
The calendar is back; it pops-up when <alt>C keys are pressed. The
function keys are again available in the menu system by popular demand.
Version 2.33 --
The error handler has been improved and the system is more user
friendly. The 'whereis' file finding option has been changed to pause
when the screen is full.
The copy command now always asks for subdirectry selection on
the destination drive when subdirectories exist. The other features
have been optimized and made more robust.
AutoMaxx is a controversial program due to it's "look and feel" similarity
to Marshall McGee's AutoMenu. But, that similarity grows less with each
new release adding features to this powerful, well-supported, shareware
program.
RESPRO11.ARC 8771 01-21-87 Disable & Reactivate mem-res programs v1.1
U/L by Bill Gibson. I have no reason to believe that Eric Gans saw my
review last month (see REVW1286.ARC) of the first release of this program,
but he has added the major capability I found lacking -- a simple way to
clear ALL memory-resident programs if you wish, rather than having to
always do so one at a time. He also added the ability to change "hot
keys". While I will personally continue to use Kokkonen's MARK/RELEASE
programs because they serves my needs, the menu-driven approach of this
program and the ability to disable and activate TSR's at will to avoid
conflicts may be capabilities you need.
CSR20.ARC 197974 01-21-87 'C Spot Run' MS-C library v2.0 /Excellent
U/L by Nevin Dubin. An excellent collection of C and assembly routines
that supplement the standard libraries provided with C compilers. The
author, Bob Pritchett, has been providing excellent support for this
collection, issuing both newsletters and updates (at reasonable intervals,
too!). Though the C code is relatvely portable, the version of the LIB
file in this arc is for current versions of Microsoft C.

PIBCAT11.ARC 63009 01-30-87 Disk cataloguer in Turbo Pascal/Expands
ARCs & LBR's/ Complete source/Phil Burns/1.1
U/L and written by Philip Burns. Wouldn't it be nice, if you look around
and can't find a disk catalog program that quite meets your needs, to be as
talented as Phil Burns and just go ahead and write one? Well, that's what
happened here. Phil wanted a program that would meet 3 criteria: (1) Find
all files (including hidden, system, etc.); (2) Traverse subdirs; and (3)
Explode ARCs and LBRs (show member files). And, he wanted the output in a
straight ascii file so that it could then be manipulated with other
programs. Couldn't find it (DISKOVER was close, but no cigar) so here it
is, with complete source in Turbo Pascal so you can modify it to your own
needs if necessary and add features you may find lacking in your
application (in which case, you'll share your new code, right?). A very
useful and astonishingly fast program.
Conflict of interest disclosure: I did a tiny bit of testing of this
program before it was released and Phil was too gracious and mentioned that
in the doc.

TPSHARE.ARC 7456 01-19-87 Accessing SHAREd files in TPasc & much more
U/L and written by John Wulff. Using PCBoard as an example, John Wulff
explains how to open files in SHAREd mode, that is, how to safely open
files in a network environment that are also being opened concurrently by
other programs. While the primary language addressed is Turbo Pascal
(which does not directly support DOS 3.x file sharing), the information
collected here will be of value for other languages, including assembly
language programmers and, of course, those working in Quick Basic. The text
file takes a complex subject and makes it all sound almost easy (more than
can be said for the DOS Tech Ref manual from which some of the info is
derived). Source code examples in Turbo Pascal are included. An
indispensable document for PCBoard utility and DOORs authors and to anyone
else who is writing applications that will run in environments where DOS
3.x file sharing is supported.

OMEGA102.ARC 58561 01-18-87 Omega-Term v1.02, small comm pgm w/X & Ymodem
U/L by Bob Weinstein. A fast, small! comm program (written in ASM, but

lacks some capabilities you may find indispensable -- like script execution
-- but who knows what lies ahead. The current release adds line editing
capabilities during command entry and some minor enhancement to it's "File

own set of spreadsheets for this purpose. Reviews by others VERY welcome.

FREEBASE.ARC 184106 01-17-87 dBASE written in Clipper by T. Rettig v1.00
01-17-87 Poor imitation of dB/Wampum is MUCH better
For a file like this, I turn to Pete Olympia for a review. Dr. dBase says:
"This compiled DOT.PRG now gives Clipper a dot prompt. In essence, a
Clipper interpreter (sort of). It is a very POOR imitation of dBASE. Very
poor error handling. Bombs on unrecognized command parms. I get a feeling
this is a marketing ploy for Rettig's library. See DOT.PRG in your Autumn
'86 distribution disk. WAMPUM is far superior." U/L by Bob Hicks to
Pete's system and to mine, and we both thank you, Bob, for an "important"
upload even if the program is way beneath its advance publicity. A short
timer on this system, so grab if you want it.
QUIKCLIP.ARC 2523 01-17-87 Create clipper CLP & LNK files for mult-modul
This short program will create the CLP, LNK, and BAT file(s) necessary for
separate compilation and linkage of a clipper program with multiple PRG
files. U/L by Bob Hicks.
UNBACKUP.ARC 12734 01-17-87 Restore BACKUP disks/files out of order/C src
Some of the code looks good, but the program can't handle files that carry
over from one disk to another. U/L by Michael Milan.
ENTER.ARC 16768 01-17-87 Execute multi-cmds from cmdline, TP source
The syntax is a little awkward, but it seems to work. You can enter more
than one command on a DOS command line. I'll resist the pitch for PCED or
CED which do the same much better (see how well I resisted). This has TP
source, and is dated 1/5/87. I like the program in DO.ARC better than this
(though it's been a while since I've used it) but that one has no source.
U/L by Sammy Mitchell.
MAKMEM3A.ARC 36018 01-17-87 Schulman's MAKE/READ .db3 MEM,null date v3.a
We'll steal Pete Olympia's review of this one as well:
"This differs from MAKEMEM3 only on READMEM & the doc. READMEM can read
FoxBase+ 1 & 2-dimensional array mem vars.
This is Andrew's superb way of importing external data into the dBASE
environment. The programs were featured in my DBA December column.
This is a super file. I ask, AGAIN, that you contribute to Andrew
(he's only asking $15 and he'll give you new updates, C source, etc
-- the education alone is worth it)."

D.ARC 2964 01-17-87 Tracks changing files in subdirs/Christensen
Those of you who were CP/M'rs will remember Ward Christensen's D.COM
program that kept an internal list of the files on your disk and would tell
you which ones were added or missing since the last time you "set" it.
Well, here it is ported to DOS, sort of, as it will now handle a subdir at
a time (it's so small you'd keep a copy of the program in each of your
frequently changing subdirs). Only of sentimental value?
GT1120-1.ARC 107734 01-17-87 \ Paul Meiners' GT PowerComm v11.20
GT1120-2.ARC 105931 01-17-87 / Versatile, frequently revised, comm prgm
Fudge. There is very little I can say about this one that's going to be
useful, won't get me in trouble, and won't hurt someone's feelings (and I
particularly don't intend the last). So, to keep it short, the author of
this program and I disagree about releasing new versions frequently. I
think it undercuts the reputation of software distributed on BBS systems
(e.g., magazines won't review them because the review is out-of-date by the
time it's published, the software gets thought of as unstable and poorly
tested, etc.). And, very large, frequently revised, programs like this
swallow precious time on busy BBS systems where time is what's in the
shortest supply. On the other hand, Paul Meiners believes he should be
responsive to the requests for new features from users of his program and
to their reports of problems. O.K. Enough said on that. This isn't a
crusade against GT -- I respect Paul's opinions and he has been entirely
gracious in his replies to my tirades in the past.
So .... here's the latest folks. I haven't tried it and won't (I simply
find GT uncomfortable to use, even though it does have some remarkable
capabilities -- it's just not for me). Use the arc DOOR program on this
system to type out the READ.ME file in the first arc for Paul's very good
update notes (I have NO complaints on that score). U/L by Loren Olson.
P.S. Download PCKR151A.ARC if you want to use Kermit with this, and many
other, programs that shell to, or otherwise execute, PC Kermit.

Sigh. David Berdan has gone and done it again. He's released a new
version of File Express without any update notes (the WHATSNEW file only
goes through 3.78). So it goes. Please note that FE380-3.ARC, which
contains the DOC files, is identical to the 3.7 docs that were already on
this system except for minor changes in things like the phone number for
Expressware and the like. A great, shareware DBMS but frustrating to have
revisions with no explanation of the changes. U/L by David Geerinck,

DISSQASH.PAT 2396 01-15-87 Katz's PKARC patch to disable squash default
01-15-87 If you use PKARC 2.0, PLEASE use this patch!
Phil Katz has released this patch for PKARC 2.0 which reverses its
defaults. Once the patch is applied, PKARC 2.0 won't use "Squashing"
unless you explicitly tell it to (at the moment, the defaults are exactly
the reverse, with squashing used unless you tell it not to). "Squashing"
is a new compression algorithm added to PKARC 2.0 that is incompatible with
the existing ARC standard and not supported by other archive utilities.
I would urge all of you who upload files to this BBS and who use PKARC 2.0
to download and apply the patch. I know some of you think debug is
something for which you call an exterminator, but the patch is easy to
apply and Katz's instructions are very clear. I would post a patched copy
of PKARC.COM (in addition to the unpatched copy) but Katz's license rather
expressly prohibits that -- unfortunately.
Thanks to James Bach for uploading the patch file. And, thanks to Phil
Katz for understanding the problems "Squashing" is causing for BBS systems
and making the patch available.

RESQ2.ARC 16896 01-15-87 Memory Rescue ver.2.0 recovery of activities
"RESQ is a utility which allows recovery of text otherwise lost in

before it was written to disk. If you've ever lost hard-won text
due to a word-processing glitch, or forgotten to save that text file
you just downloaded, or had to use the fire exit while testing a new
program, or given the wrong answer to "Abandon current version?",
you can use RESQ." Should be compatible with most programs. Among those
mentioned are WS 3.3, SideKick and the Turbo Pascal editor. v2.0 is claimed
to handle high memory better and to be much faster. U/L by James Bach.

BOSS1187.ARC 176736 01-15-87 Window Boss v01.01.87/Excellent C window pkg
Reviewed and highly praised here many times before, this C windowing
package is one of the best shareware packages (and somewhat immodestly
claims to be better than all the commercial packages. As I've not tried
many of them ....). The latest revisions don't look major -- mostly bug

Changes to the latest version:
- the capability to tag "whole day" events such as "VACATION",
"HOLIDAY", or "TRAVEL".
- visual display of the graphics block when adding an appointment.
- ability to create "templates" for use in Info files and to
modify the filename of an edited Info file before saving.
- automatic detection of color/mono equipment.
- ability to access different TS files on floppies or in hard disk
sub-directories.
- ability to invoke program to initialize on any date.
- Info files no longer limited to 10K bytes.
- more efficient handling of data and Info files.

FREEKICK.ARC 49382 01-13-87 Mem-res calendar/calc/ascii tab w source 3.5
The rudimentary beginnings of a public domain SideKick, only some of the
functions are implemented so far. Written by Don Bowen using some of Lane
Ferris' excellent TSR routines, this program is well-behaved and can be
removed from memory. Still, it's the Turbo Pascal source that's of value
at the moment. Maybe someone will improve on it (the screen writing is a
bit slow) and add features (an editor!).
DSIZ.ARC 1618 01-13-87 VTREE-like display w/subdir byte totals 1.0
Written by Eric Gans, this is v1.0 (12/11/86) of a fast, small program that
gives you a nice display of your subdir tree with the total bytes occupied
by files in each subdir. Gans writes such nice little utils -- back in my
CP/M days, some of his were my favorites and it's a pleasure to see
programs by him showing up for MS-DOS.
TELESALE.ARC 113110 01-13-87 TeleSale v2.10 Telemarketeer/Prospector prgm.

SCRAMB.ARC 17489 01-13-87 Term program for send/receiving scrambled msg

DD14.ARC 9573 01-13-87 Show two dirs/also sweep functions v1.4 1/87
Shows two directories side by side and, in this release:
* Alters file attributes
* Copies files
* Dumps files
* Erases files
* The choice of directories to examine can be changed
without exiting the program.
* The directories can be re-read to account for a change
of disk or file status.
* Moves files between directories without copying them
* Renames files
Kinda sounds like a stripped down version of Qfiler, but a lot smaller,
huh? Well, no, because it doesn't work like a sweep util -- you can't just
mark files and execute commands on them. Instead, you end up typing each
filename which sort of defeats the purpose of this kind of utility, I
think. Oh well ... U/L by Melvin Douglas.

ASEASY27.ARC 144705 01-13-87 ASEASY v2.07 LOTUS 1-2-3 clone, w/ Macros
An update to this spreadsheet clone that is not-quite-WKS-compatible. No
indication as to what has changed except for some opening command line
switches to handle various monitors. Alas, they no longer include
documentation with the BBS version. Well, that was easily dealt with as I

ADVBS291.ARC 89370 01-13-87 v2.91 of new commands for BASIC compilers
Tom Hanlin forgot to link some of the new OBJ files into the library and
that has now been rectified. I have also made the archive smaller by
arc'ing the object files, rather than librarying them, and taking LU.EXE
out of the arc. The READ.ME file notes this change. For more info, see

[01-12-87]
CATDSK31.ARC 147758 01-12-87 Diskette Catalog'r/Processes ARCs 3.1 010687
"CATDISK can organize a "Super Directory" of all your diskette files in
alphabetical order and tell you what diskette(s) they are on in a single
glance. For those who use the ARC utility from System Enhancement
Associates (highly recommended!), or the older LU utilities, there is an
added bonus. CATDISK can also read .ARC or .LBR files and include the
individual files from the archive,or library in your catalog along with the
archive, or library name from which they came! Catdisk also supports
sub-directories to one level deep. They will be scanned and included in
the catalog."
This latest update handles archives that have "Squashed" files due to use
of PKARC 2.0. Two versions of the CATDISK program are included, which
differ in the amount of available RAM required and correspondingly in the
number of files they can catalog. This is an excellent program, subject to
frequent revisions (this system went from 2.2 to 3.1 in the span of 24
hours), but well worth a look if you're less lazy than am I and keep good
track of what's on your floppies.

ADVBAS29.ARC 101376 01-12-87 v2.9 of new commands for BASIC compilers
U/L and written by Tom Hanlin. A major update to Tom Hanlin's excellent
library of routines for compiled BASIC programs. The latest update notes:
ADVBAS 2.9, 01/12/87:
Mouse control has been added. You can see if a mouse exists, get or
set the location of the mouse cursor, check the status of the mouse
buttons in two different ways, and set a legal range for the mouse
cursor, using the MM series of functions (MMBUTTON, MMCHECK, MMCLICK,
MMGETLOC, MMSETLOC, MMSETRANGE). Expanded memory checking has been
added-- you can see if it exists, and if so, how much memory there is
and how much of it is free (GETLIMM). Finally, a BASIC subprogram to
generate pop-up windows (MAKEWINDOW) has been included. This is
based on Dave Evers' fine BASWIND routine, with assorted improvements.
The screen routines QPRINT, XQPRINT, SCRSAVE, SCRREST, GETSCREEN and
PUTSCREEN have been modified to automatically use high-speed mode
with monochrome adapters. Their speed with color adapters has also
been increased. Object code for all routines has been included,
along with information on automating library production. This will
allow y'all to produce custom libraries using either the standard LIB
format or the QuickBASIC 2.0 BUILDLIB format.

GGL12B.ARC 83594 01-12-87 / system with 5 yr audit trail and more v1.2
"GGL is a conventional double entry accounting system with new productivity
features. Some of these features are:
> No more unfound sheets of paper with account names and
account numbers.
> Account Symbols are always available on the screen when
entering Transactions, and entry of account numbers is
unnecessary.
> Transaction entry includes the ability to Reconcile Bank
Statements; the means for recalling Repeaters, such as
withholding each month; and automatic indexing of Check
Numbers.
> Program functions and Accounts often may be selected simply
by tapping the Enter key.
> Accounts are set-up by entering the account name and current
amounts with a full-screen editor utilizing WordStar-like
controls.
> A five year audit trail for all accounts. Also, transactions
may be reproduced from as far back as there are disk files.
> Multiple sets of books can be maintained with one program."
The documentation is adequate, but a working knowledge of basic accounting
is assumed. The program is written in Turbo Pascal and executes quite
quickly, with fast screen updates. All in all, a good package that may
meet your needs.

CLIST.ARC 41984 01-11-87 Descriptively prints (blocks, highlights) C

"CLIST.ARC is a utility program that lists, or perhaps more accurately,
prints, C source code descriptively. That is, it double strikes
keywords, blocks out loops and so forth. It might be most useful for
large, multi-file C programs, due to the convenient way it handles
#include(d) files. Written specifically for Epson printers but
supposedly easily modified. Author: John Hardin.
Seems well done. I wish it "listed" its' output to the screen like
V. Buerg's LIST, though, instead of the printer."

MAKEMEM3.ARC 38016 01-09-87 New ver Schulman MAKE/READ .db3 MEM,null date
U/L by Pete Olympia, who has strongly recommended this package of programs
in the past and continues to do so. Pete's comments on the latest version:
"MAKEMEM3.ARC replaces MAKMEM4C.ARC (I don't get the numbering scheme
either). It has a much shorter doc, no more PIF files, and improved
MAKEMEM & READMEM. READMEM can handle null dates & numerics."
I should note that the doc is shorter in part to encourage registrations,
at which point more complete documentation is provided. But, what's here
is adequate and the programs are excellent.

NOTE11.ARC 19456 01-08-87 Handy non-res note util/MS Pas source/1/87
U/L by Jay Guitan. I really like this one, though it's terribly simple
(and maybe that's why). You set an environment variable giving the name
and path of a "notepad" and then, for example, type "NOTE -S John called
for Susie." Your note, plus a date and time stamp, are recorded in the
notefile. If you enter NOTE -S -P, then you are prompted for multiple
lines of a note, ending whenever you hit ^Z. Leave out the -S and you lose
the time and date stamp. That's all there is to it, but it's non-resident,
a cinch to use, and quite handy in certain situations. This one has found
a place on my work computer where I rarely have SideKick loaded and this is
really all I need for quick note taking. Source in MS Pascal included.
FPD221.ARC 74752 01-08-87 Financial Partner analysis tool v2.21
U/L by John Stanton. A very well-done collection of standard financial
calculations. The program is not mem-res (which I happen to prefer), is
reasonably fast, easy-to-use and well documented. All in all, a winner.
PMOVE5.ARC 41436 01-08-87 Patriquin's MOVE files util v5.0 10/86
Norm Patriquin has opened up his own BBS so it was finally possible to get
up-to-date versions of all of his programs for this system. Do a [Z] search
for "Patriquin" and you'll find them all.

Brief descriptions and reviews of new files added to the system during
January, 1987:
PMOVE5 is probably the least important of the Patriquin utilities as all of
the functions in PMOVE are also in PCOPY (current version 5.1) and PCOPY
will move instead of copy if you add an /X parm to the command line.
Indeed, the similarity between the 2 programs is so great that there is no
documentation for PMOVE -- you can use the PCOPY documentation instead.
Also, as with all of Norm's programs, just type the name of the program and
you get a list of its commands and some examples. An excellent program,
but I'll keep PCOPY on the disk instead and tell it to move when I need it
do so so.
PPRINT.ARC 22323 01-08-87 Patriquin's Print util/best w/HP Laserjet v1
"PPRINT is a general purpose print utility that can be used with HP laser
or other printers. PPRINT will scan a directory and select files for
printing. Print control parameters govern the print process. A special
print feature for the HP laserjet printer allows printing two pages on both
halves of a side of paper. This is especially nice for printing large
documents as it saves paper and print time."
In addition to the unique HP features, there are some selection options in
this program that just aren't available in other similar programs and you
may find one there that's just what you've been looking for.
CVTFON15.ARC 58368 01-08-87 CvtFon v1.5 modem DIR/FON converter, 01/01/87
U/L by Bob Weinstein. CvtFon 1.5 (01 Jan 87) - Several bug fixes,
including a sorting bug that could hang the system. More include & exclude
strings allowed. Support for ALL SEVEN GT PowerComm formats (to date),
including new 11.00, with appropriate changes to /F and the version number
handler. All affixes (+, -, @, #, !) can be set from the command line.
Minimal phone number editing is available with /A (Add Prefix) and /D
(Delete Prefix).
PCRGB101.ARC 23552 01-08-87 FMAC++/RMAC,DGI,BLOAD,CGA,EGA,AT&T63,01/07/87

with updates due frequently.

PCTX86-2.ARC 30774 01-08-87 / program -- complete and excellent
U/L by Jim Davis. " PC-TAX86 does all the calculations for and prints
forms and schedules for IRS 1040 Income Tax Returns for 1986. The program
will process and print a Form 1040 and Schedules A, B, C, D, E, F, G, SE,
and W and Forms 2106, 2441, 3468, 4562 and 6251 that may be used as
attachments to the Form 1040. Totals are generally transferred from form
to form when required. Tax due is computed based on a table that is a part
of the PC-TAX86 system. The program provides direct access to any line on
any of the forms or schedules for entry, change or deletion."
This is one of the best of the shareware tax prep programs, well-documented
and uncrippled. Jim Davis is a registered user and uploaded this straight
off the distribution disk, my favorite way to get software for this board.

U/L by Loren Olson. My, my, nothing written in Clipper ends up small, does
it? Ouch. Anyway, PHOEBE is designed for sales people who contact
prospective customers and want to keep a database of the results. It looks
quite powerful and well-designed, but as I'm not in that business, it's
hard for me to evaluate this one. A bit specialized for this system and,
in light of its size, won't be kept for all that long.

PATTR.ARC 27180 01-07-87 Patriquin's file(s) attributes modifier 1.0
Yet another Patriquin utility and it shares the excellence and
professionalism of them all. It also shares the overwhelming number of
command line options; they can be a bit intimidating at first. The power
of Norm's programs comes from this wealth of options. My way of dealing
with it is to create BAT files or CED/PCED synonyms for the options that I
will frequently use.

PDEL12.ARC 29485 01-07-87 Patriquin's Delete util w/select criteria 1.2
PDELETE's file selection parameters provide you with numerous
options for specifying the files to be deleted. You may select by
directory, file, date, attribute, size, and even starting and
ending filename.
That summary from Norm's doc doesn't begin to tell the story. PDEL12 is an
update to another excellent program by Norm Patriquin which gives you
certain deletion options that I just don't recall ever seeing in any other
program. Again, as above, the number of options can be overwhelming and
should be dealt with by BAT files or command editor aliases.

DS220.ARC 91136 01-06-87 Directory Scanner v2.20 - DOS shell/backup
U/L by Bill Cochrane. A very powerful, if slightly complex, combination
DOS shell sweep-type and backup utility. Latest revisions: Ver 2.20 (20
Dec 86) ---
- Changed Rescan Directory option (old CTRL-D) to ALT-R option to make room
for next new option.
- Added CTRL-D option for Directory Modifications. Allows addition,
deletion, and name changing of directories. Based on limited testing to
date, name changing only appears to work for PC/MS DOS 3.0+.
- Added ALT-S option for Selecting & Sorting of files within a directory.
Allows the user to specify a file select filter other than the default
"*.*". Also allows for sorting files up/down by filename, extension, size,
date, or no sort (directory order).
- Installed new sort function to rectify previous stack overflow problems
with original sort routine.
- Added CTRL-V option to toggle the displaying of disk volumn identifiers.

which is date-crippled (it ceases to function at the end of 6/87).
However, the rest of the program remains intact. Download the INF file for

SFTCH203.ARC 65536 01-04-87 Soft-Touch keybd macro vP2.03/limited version
U/L by Bob Weinstein. Although a somewhat limited teaser for the
commercial version, what's here looks to be a quite powerful keyboard macro
program a la SuperKey, ProKey, etc. It has a "record and playback"
keystrokes mode that is quite useful in helping you to define lengthy macro
sequences. I'm not a user of these and didn't spend much time with this,
but it looks quite good. While on the subject, SMACS_2A.ARC, which has
been here since April '86, also contains a very powerful macro program,
created and contributed to BBS's by the Sunny Hill Software folks,
publishers of TaskView. The copy on this board is almost identical to the
copy that comes with TV, lacking only those aspects needed to interface the
2 programs.
INVIS.ARC 14336 01-04-87 Boot from HD w/"invisible" floppy in A drive
U/L by Bob Weinstein. There you go again, trying to reboot the machine
while you have a data disk in the A: drive so all you end up with is a
"non-system" disk error message. Well, this program can make a diskette
"invisible" to the boot process so your system will ignore the floppy and
still boot from the hard disk. It worked fine on a 360K floppy on my XT
clone. I haven't tried it on a 1.2meg AT floppy and the doc just doesn't
say.
